Good things…

Please watch the video above.

It’s created by a guy named Michael Fagans, and it covers a project of the PC(USA) called the Committee on the Self Devleopment of People.

Philosophically, their group’s mission statement covers what they do pretty well:

The Self-Development of People is a ministry that affirms God’s concern for humankind. We are Presbyterians and ecumenical partners, dissatisfied with poverty and oppression, united in faith and action through sharing, confronting and enabling. We participate in the empowerment of economically poor, oppressed and disadvantaged people who are seeking to change the structures that perpetuate poverty, oppression and injustice.

In other words, they help empower others.  It looks to be a phenomenal program, and I’m please to see that they’re venturing into the digital world to get some exposure (you can also see some of their stuff at www.thechurchisalive.com)

There are good things in this world, and this is one of them.

it's alive.

It’s alive: thechurchisalive.com.

Check it out. I’ll write more later, but here’s a brief rundown of what they (or rather, WE) are about:

The Church is Alive project stems from an idea that the Church is more than what some currently believe. We have heard the worries and anxieties that say that our church is “dying” or “already dead”, but believe instead that the church is alive, vibrant and a powerful force for good in the world. We believe that the Holy Spirit is breathing new life into all corners of our denomination, and that our body of believers is rich with stories of giving back, exploring fresh approaches to community, and discovering new ways to worship God.
